INTEGRATE are delighted to host the second Research Competencies and Development Course, in partnership with the NIHR Clinical Research Network West Midlands and Cochrane ENT Group.
The inaugural course enjoyed fantastic feedback with 95% stating they would reccommend the course to their peers and an overall rating of 8 out of 10!
Last year’s course had similar results with 93% recommending the course and 8 out of 10 overall rating.
The first day will be a face-to-face workshop in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, with certification. This is a requirement of the Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care 2005, the policy covering all research in the NHS in England, and in law (SI 2004/1031, Schedule 1, Part 2, 8) for those people working on clinical trials.
The second day will start with a formal critical appraisal session from local librarian Petra Mason. We will then hand over to the Core Editorial team of the Cochrane ENT Group for an interactive session, focusing on developing skills needed to produce quality systematic reviews (including working up a PICO question, designing a search, interpreting ‘summary of findings’ tables & forest plots, and clear writing).
Demonstrating appropriate Research and Critical Appraisal Skills is a CCT requirement. Further, the SAC has also recently decided it will soon be a CCT requirement to have completed GCP training. The two-day event is therefore tailored to ENT trainees looking to become ‘Research Ready’ for CCT.
