The first day of the course covers basic techniques while the second day is designed for people already involved with bronchoscopy.
The course is intended for respiratory paediatricians, general paediatricians with an interest in respiratory disease, and nurses and respiratory therapists who are involved with bronchoscopy.
Topics include:introduction to bronchoscopy, anatomy of the airways, anaesthesia & sedation, bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchoscopy equipment, bronchoscopy in the paediatric intensive care unit. rigid bronchoscopy, use of airway stents, biopsy techniques, diagnosing pulmonary infection and clinical applications in cystic fibrosis, research applications, clinical applications in oncology/BMT and asthma, and two video sessions on pathology. There are also two sessions with hands-on practice using models.
