Skull Base Course

Since 1985, each year, the Gruppo Otologico and the AINOT (Associazione Italiana Neuro-Otologica) jointly have been organizing middle ear and skull base surgery dissection courses. In the last couple of decades these courses have been the most sought after courses in Europe for middle ear and skull base dissection surgical dissection training. The objective of these courses are to make the participants learn the surgical anatomy of the temporal bone in middle ear and lateral skull base surgeries from the very best surgeons in the field.

The 5 day courses are held at the Gruppo Otologico institute (Piacenza) and are designed for both beginners and experienced surgeons. Apart from dissections on the temporal bone, participants also have the opportunity to attend lectures on diagnostic and surgical neuroradiology, clinical cases as well as witness live and recorded surgical sessions.

The participants also have the chance to interact with some of the biggest names in the field of otology, neurotology, skull base surgery, neuroradiology who will be invited as faculty at these courses. We have limited seats and hence we recommend that you register well in advance due to the large number of applications each year. 

Skull Base Course

This course is aimed at re ning the participants’ knowledge of the anatomy of the lateral skull base and learning complex and de nitive lateral skull base procedures including the translabyrinthine approaches, the infratemporal fossa approaches (types A, B, C and D), modified transcochlear approach, the petrooccipitotranssigmoid approach, the retrosigmoid and the enlarged middle cranial fossa approaches. One fresh and injected full cadaveric head will be provided to each participant for dissection.
