The course provides training in:
- Advanced transcanal temporal bone dissection
- Endoscopic soft tissue dissection
- Advanced endoscopic techniques The course is based on hands-on dissection of 2 fresh-frozen/partially preserved cadaveric specimens using an entirely endoscopic approach. A limited number of key lectures are provided to guide dissection and introduce the concepts of endoscopic ear surgery. The course is not a temporal bone dissection course in that dissections will concentrate on a front-to-back ‘disease-pursuant’ approach through the external auditory meatus using endoscopic techniques. Live demonstrations will be undertaken by the faculty to guide the group dissections. The major dissections include:
- Raising a tympanomeatal flap and accessing the middle ear
- Lateral graft tympanoplasty
- Atticotomy
- Approaches to the sinus tympani and anterior epitympanum
- Endoscopic ossiculoplasty
