This unique one day course is aimed primarily at intensivists and otolaryngologists who wish an introduction to the skills necessary to practice this procedure using a safe technique. The course includes short tutorials and video presentation, but it is predominantly practical with closely supervised ‘hands on’ experience of percutaneous tracheostomy under endoscopic control.
The model used creates realistic conditions for the practice of percutaneous tracheostomy techniques using the single tapered dilatator method. Airway and ventilatory management may be rehearsed whilst using the endoscope to guide and check the insertions of instruments.
No previous experience of endoscopy of percutaneous tracheostomy required.
There will be 6 simulated workstations available- each with full endoscopic facilities and a dedicated tutor. A maximum of two participants will be allocated to each workstation. This limits the maximum number of participants to 12 on each course.
This event is approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists, therefore suitable for your CPD programme.
