The Journal of Laryngology and Otology provides financial resources for two visiting Professors in each academic year. The appointments are made on the recommendation of the Presidents of the Sections of Otology and of Rhinology and Laryngology of the Royal Society of Medicine in London. The selected candidates will, in part, be supported by the Royal Society of Medicine and will be expected to give at least one lecture on the Society’s premises. These positions are not open to competition.
The Journal also offers two Scholarships each year for travel and one for primary research. These are open awards and will normally be advertised in November and December of each year. The adjudicators for these awards will normally be the Editors in conjunction with co-opted directors of the Journal. Their numbers will be varied, depending on the number of applicants. Their names will be made known and separately published.
Candidates who wish to apply for monies to facilitate their travel must provide a full curriculum vitae with two references and details of any other sources of agreed financial support. In addition they are also asked to note that the following conditions must be satisfied:
Within three months of completion of the period of travel successful applicants will be asked to provide a report for the trustees, which will be published in the Journal

Any department that submits a successful application will not normally be eligible for a further award with a frequency greater than one year in three. The trustees reserve the right to interview applicants, who should normally be a personal subscriber to the Journal, prior to making an award.
